Episode 38

Heavy Fuel.

W/C 27th September 2021

On Every Street was the final Dire Straits album, and the follow up to the über hit Brothers In Arms. Heavy Fuel was supposed to be the bedfellow to Money For Nothing in terms of sound & structure.

Neither the single or album captured the moment in the way that BiA had and when I finally got to see them on tour I was left a wee bit cold by the show, which was overplayed and a little self-indulgent.

You can imagine how disappointing this was for a lad that had grown up watching the mercurial Alchemy VHS over and over again.

Years later, my faith was restored when I saw Mr K. playing a solo gig at the Newcastle City Hall. The band captured all that energy had made early Dire Straits so magical and gave me the memory I had longed for. Maybe I should have had a little more faith.

Stay safe.

I have been tinkering with audio since my mid-teens, recording songs & producing content for friends.

Post university I embraced the world of retail, firstly in supermarkets and later in & around the music instrument industry.

After 20 years or so, I took a sideways step into podcasting and began a venture called ashortstories, which helps in the development & production of podcasts for anyone that has a story to tell.
